CHTC Club Tennis Champs in Action

Current and previous CHTC club tennis champs Derek Wildman and Greg Archer hit the paddle courts tonight against experienced paddlers Geoff Scott and Steve Nebiker.

Onlookers in the know expected the match up to be interesting, but one sided in favor of experience. To our surprise, Greg and Derek jumped out to a 5-1 first set lead, lost momentum and then dropped the first set 7-5 after holding off many set points.

Young Derek and Greg exhibited interesting paddle strategy. Both players ignored advice of their onlooking captain and played back when serving. Sometimes they played the net when receiving. It was unconventional and appeared to confuse their opponents.

The second set went to experience 6-4 and our young paddle stars in the making received a lesson in what happens when paddle momentum shifts. It will be interesting to see how well they play and what style they exhibit later in the season.
